Meet Our Speakers

Dr. Jennifer M. Grossman is a rheumatologist and Clinical Professor at the UCLA-David Geffen School of Medicine. She received her medical degree from University of Rochester School of Medicine and Dentistry and completed her training at UCLA Medical Center and has been in practice for more than 20 years. Dr. Grossman has contributed to more than 50 articles in peer-reviewed publications such as Arthritis & Rheumatology, Computers in Human Behavior and the International Journal of Environmental Research and Public Health and was awarded one of LA’s Top Doctors by the Los Angeles Business Journal.

Dr. Steve Rad, MD, FACOG, is an expert specialist in OBGYN and subspecialist in Maternal & Fetal Medicine/High Risk Pregnancies. He is a Double Board-Certified Diplomate of the American Board of Obstetrics & Gynecology and completed medical school at David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA, had his Residency and Fellowship at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, and additional training at international fetal programs. Dr. Rad is at the cutting-edge in his field and has earned numerous Top Doctor Awards. As an MFM subspecialist, he is among few physicians with expertise in advanced fetal ultrasound, early fetal anatomy and neuro-sonography. Dr. Rad is especially passionate about taking care of women with the highest risk and most complex pregnancies in both the maternal and fetal realm, often involving careful multidisciplinary care and delivery planning. He is Director of the Los Angeles Fetal & Maternal Care Center - with main office location at the prestigious Cedars-Sinai Medical Office Towers and he is on staff at multiple top medical centers in LA.

Andrew Kantor is a partner at Kantor & Kantor LLP.   Andrew Kantor grew up watching client advocacy and passionate representation.  His parents are Glenn & Lisa Kantor, are the founding partners of Kantor & Kantor LLP. While many children would gravitate away from being an attorney in response to such an upbringing, Andrew knew there was no other path for him. Upon graduating from college, Andrew worked at Kantor & Kantor as an intake director. While in law school, he worked as a legal extern for Consumer Watchdog, a public consumer organization specializing in consumer-side insurance issues. Andrew's practice is primarily focused on helping individuals obtain wrongfully denied disability and life insurance benefits.  Andrew’s most recent victory was Renault v. UNUM.  He convinced the court that UNUM’s interpretation of its own disability policy to exclude all bonuses and commissions from Ms. Renault’s benefit calculation, despite having a commission-based sales position, was improper as a matter of law. Andrew has recently been named as a member of the Community Advisory Council at the Solve ME/CFS Initiative. Andrew also serves on the Board of The Elder Law and Disability Rights Center. In addition, his efforts have been recognized by Super Lawyers, being named a Rising Star in Southern California for the last six years in a row.

 Diana Winston is the Director of UCLA Mindful, the author of The Little Book of Being: Practices and Guidance for Uncovering your Natural Awareness, and the co-author, with Susan Smalley PhD, of Fully Present, the Science, Art and Practice of Mindfulness. She has taught mindfulness for health and well-being since 1993 in a variety of settings including the medical and mental health field, and in universities, businesses, non-profits, and schools. At UCLA she has developed the evidence-based Mindful Awareness Practices (MAPs) curriculum and the Training in Mindfulness Facilitation (TMF), which trains mindfulness teachers worldwide. She is also a founder of the International Mindfulness Teachers Association. Her work has been mentioned in the New York Times, O Magazine, Newsweek, the Los Angeles Times, Allure, Women’s Health, and in a variety of magazines, books, and journals. The LA Times calls her “one of the nation’s best-known teachers of mindfulness.” Diana has been practicing mindfulness since 1989, including a year a Buddhist nun in Burma (Myanmar) and is the mom of a teenager.

Patient Perspective Panel: 

My name is Mo’Nay a lot of people may know me as MiMi & I was diagnosed with Lupus September 2021 after having symptoms for almost 7 years! After my diagnosis I quickly looked into the Lupus Foundation of America and started researching this mysterious disease! I educated myself and found a tribe of men and women who helped me through that difficult time. I became an advocate for myself and others and became a team captain for the Los Angeles walk to End Lupus, Walked on Capitol Hill in Washington, DC to speak to the congress and became a support group Facilitator. It warms my heart to know I have a purpose an I’m helping make a difference to find a cure

I’m a mother, public face, and explorer in trying new things living with lupus SLE. After navigating the challenges of diagnosis, treatment, and daily life with a chronic illness, I’ve become passionate about raising awareness, sharing my story, and building community for others facing similar experiences. My goal is to offer inspiration, visibility, and hope to those who often feel unseen.

I've been living with SLE for over 20 years and have been in remission for the past 6 years, thanks to lifestyle changes including diet and exercise. By making these changes a regular part of my life, I've been able to maintain my health and well-being. My primary goal is to inspire others with lupus by showing that a diagnosis doesn't have to mean the end of living a long, healthy life.
